Mamata offers govt job to brother of Asiad Gold medal winner athlete Swapna Burman, announces to launch new sports policy

Darjeeling, Sep 5 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today offered a government job to the brother of Asiad Gold medal winner athlete Swapna Barman and told the state sports minster to draft a new sports policy for promotion of talented sports personnel in the state.

Addressing after laying the foundation stone of state first ever Green Field University, which to be named as the Darjeeling Hill University, Ms Banerjee said while as assured a cheque of Rs 10 lakh has been handed over to the mother of Swapna Barman for winning gold in Heptathlon in Jakarta. She also said if the athlete was keen to take a government job she is always welcome, besides a job to her brother in the state tourism department.

She said the campus of the university, to come at Mongpoo, to be named after one of the first climbers on Everest Tenzing Norgay, another campus to be named after Mount Kanchenjunga, the guardian deity of Hills and another branch to be named after Nepali poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya.

Ms Banerjee also asked her sports minister Arup Biswas to work for a new policy draft in the sports policy, which would promote for the talented sports personnel.
