New Delhi, Jan 21 (UNI) The BJP said on Monday that the Trinamool Congress and its leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were afraid of the popularity of the Modi government and that is why they were creating hurdles for BJP national president Amit Shah's rally in the state.
"The manner in which the BJP has grown in Tripura ... Mamata didi is afraid that the party is emerging the same way in West Bengal. It is clearly visible that Mamata Didi is scared. Her government is attempting to put obstacles for the rally of Mr Amit Shah," Railway Minister and party leader Piyush Goyal said, addressing the reporters at the party headquarters here.
Mr Shah is going to address a rally on Tuesday in Malda.
Referring to the ongoing repair work at the airport near the rally site, the local administration has refused to allow Mr Shah's helicopter to land there.
The Union Minister alleged that in another attempt to obstruct the rally, the state government has not given permission for the helicopter to land for Mr Shah's rally to be held on Tuesday in Malda.
He said that there was an airport near the rally place in Malda where helicopter can land. However, the administration refused the permission, saying the repair work was on at the airport while the photographs posted on a website of a TV channel make it clear that there was no disruption at the airport helipad.
He alleged that the Trinamool government had not even allowed the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha to take out a bicycle rally last time.
There was breakdown of the law and order in West Bengal, Mr Goyal said.
Attacking the Opposition parties who shared stage in the Trinamool rally on Saturday, the BJP leader asked them to clarify their stand.
'Day-to-day political activists are being killed. During Panchayat elections, 36 BJP workers were killed, 1,300 injured and as many as 80 political murders took place.
"Seven years of rule of Trinamool shows that law and order was out of control in the state. '
Mr Goyal said he wanted to ask the 'friends' (opposition parties) who joined the Trinamool rally, what they have to say on the collapse of political ethics in the state.
'What has the Congress to say on this,' he asked.
The Union Minister said that if a party is not allowed to hold a rally in a BJP-ruled state then the BJP is accused of being intolerant.
He said, "Today the people of West Bengal are unhappy with the state government. They have decided to empower the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. The law and order has failed in the state and the people will give reply to them through elections. "
