Mamata Banerjee meets Sharad Pawar in Mumbai

Mumbai, Dec 1 (UNI) In a bid to bolster the Opposition parties against the ruling BJP, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday met NCP supremo and former Union minister Sharad Pawar here.
The visiting Trinamool Congress chief had an hour-long meeting with the veteran leader at Pawar's Silver Oak residence here this afternoon, before a joint news conference. In this meeting, Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, Prasant Kishore, NCP leaders and ministers Jitendra Awhad, Nawab Malik and others were present.
While talking to media persons, Pawar said, "Considering current situation in the country, we had discussions on political situation, and how we can give alternative option to fight against BJP in the 2024 general elections."
"A party which will fight against BJP, we will support such party," he said and added he had a association with Banerjee.
Speaking on the occasion, Banerjee said she is touring the country to bring together the opposition parties on a 'strong' platform which can give a tough fight to BJP.
Talking about United Progressive Alliance, she replied that, "where is UPA, there is no UPA, that is why we are trying to bring opposition parties together, to fight jointly against BJP."
"One person cannot do this, so we have to come together," the TMC chief added.
Earlier, Ms Banerjee, who is in Mumbai on official tour, had a meeting with top industrialists at Y B Chavan Centre in the afternoon. She invited them to invest in her state West Bengal.
