Malhotra condoles Sheila's death, says "I told her contesting LS polls was uncalled for"

New Delhi, Jul 20 (UNI) Senior BJP leader Vijay Malhotra on Saturday condoled the death of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and said she was not in favour of contesting the just concluded Lok Sabha polls.

Recalling his long association with the Congress veteran, senior BJP leader Vijay Malhotra said, "I always enjoyed a good personal rapport with Late Sheila ji. Her death is a personal loss to me, loss to Delhi and the entire country".

"She was younger to me, and she would always acknowledge that. We spoke about ten days back and I told her contesting recent Lok Sabha elections at this age was uncalled. She smiled and had said, --- aap toh Bhai ho; (you are a brother) - I understand what you are saying, but my party took a decision and I had to respect that," Mr Malhotra told UNI.

Ms Dikshit, 81 breathed last on Saturday.

BJP veteran, a former deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2009, Vijay Malhotra is 87-year-old.

Contesting against BJP nominee Manoj Tiwari, Ms Dikshit lost from North East Delhi constituency in the Lok Sabha polls by a margin of over three lakh votes.

Vijay Malhotra, who was Leader of the Opposition during Sheila Dikshit's stint as Chief Minister from 2008 to 2013, said, "In fact, we enjoyed very good rapport when I was chief minister way back in 1966. The friendship stuck and her behaviour was always amiable".

Sheila Dikshit had served for a period of 15 years from 1998 to 2013 as Chief Minister. She was also sworn in as Governor of Kerala on March 11, 2014 but resigned on August 25, 2014 after Modi government took over.

She also had served as Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs between 1984 and 1989.
