Malaysia Masters 2019: Saina races to semi-finals, Kidambi out of tournament

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 18 (UNI) Indian star shuttler Saina Nehwal surprised Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the women's singles quarter-finals making her way into the semi-finals of the Malaysia Masters here on Friday while in another men's match India's campaign ended after Kidambi Srikanth lost to Son Wan Ho of South Korea.
Saina defeated Okuhara in straight sets 21-18, 23-21 to end the game in 48 minutes. World no 9, Saina has 9-4 career record now against 2nd ranked Okuhara. This is Saina's third consecutive win against the Japanese player. Last year the Indian had beaten Japanese at French Open and Denmark Open.
In the semi-finals Saina faces fourth seeded and Olympic champion Spain's Carolina Marin.
