Major tragedy averted, IED defused in area near airport

Srinagar, Sep 21 (UNI) Alert security forces on Tuesday averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants on road at the Humhama area of Airport in Budgam district, central Kashmir.
Officials sources said the security forces during a routine patrolling found a steel container on the road at Gogoo-Gali area of the Airport this morning.
The area was immediately sealed and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) summoned.
Later, the IED weighing about six Kg’s was found in the container by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS). The IED was defused without causing any damage, the sources said while adding that an FIR has been registered and investigation is being done.
