Colombo, Aug 8 (UNI) Mahinda Rajapaksa will sworn in as the ninth Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on Sunday, on August 9, General Secretary Attorney Sagara Kariyawasam announced on Saturday.
He further said that the ceremony will likely take place at the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya. The new Parliament scheduled to convene for its first sitting on the August 20.
Rajapaksha led SLPP won the August 5 elections, emerging victorious in 145 out of the 225 seats in the parliament, with this, they now have a two-thirds majority in parliament.
Sri Lanka’s ruling Rajapaksa brothers secured a two-thirds majority in a parliamentary election that allowed them to rewrite the constitution and increase their power, final results showed on Friday.
