Maha: HC refuses to grant custody of girl to her parents

Mumbai, Dec 13 (UNI) The Bombay High Court on Friday refused to give custody of a girl to her parents in an interfaith couple case while indicating that it will pass an order allowing her to act as per her choice.
A division bench of Justices Bharti Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande was hearing a 'habeas corpus' petition filed by a 20-year-old Muslim boy seeking direction to police to produce 19-year-old Hindu girl, who had been sent to a shelter home in Mumbai by the police over an issue of living with a Muslim person.
The boy moved the Court seeking the girl's immediate release, arguing that her detention was unlawful and in violation of her fundamental rights.
"We are setting her on liberty... Let her do what she wants. She is of the opinion that it is her life. We can only wish her luck," the Court observed orally and reserved its order, which will be pronounced in due course.
