Mumbai, Jun 25 (UNI) Maharashtra NCP president and Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil on Saturday took an important decision to alleviate the water shortage in drought-hit areas of Beed and Barshi in Solapur district of the state.
Approval has been given for issuance of tender for Upsa irrigation scheme No 3 (Shimpora to Khuntephal storage lake) under the Krishna Marathwada Yojana, which is a boon for the permanently drought-prone areas of Beed district, he said.
The scheme, estimated to cost about Rs 1,527 crore, will cover 8,147 hectares of land in Ashti and Kada talukas, the minister informed and said that 1.68 TMC of water will be supplied to Khuntephal lake through a 72.33-Km-long closed pipeline.
The work of this scheme will be completed in next two years, he assured.
Patil expressed that this scheme will prove to be an excellent engineering model for his Ministry and the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
On ongoing political crisis in the state, he said that attempts were being made to destabilise the ruling MVA government and added that the ministers of the alliance government are working for the welfare of the people.
