Mah Assembly passes amendment to SEBC Act

Mumbai, Jun 20 (UNI) Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed an amendment in the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) Act of 2018.
The state government passed an ordinance to convert the aforementioned Act into a Bill, which proposes 16 per cent reservation for Maratha community in academic institutions and state government jobs.
Under the prescribed limit, the passed amendment allows the Maratha community students to seek admissions in the postgraduate level medical courses for the present academic year.
Post amendment, the SEBC Act will ensure that there will be reservations in favour of the candidates belonging to the SEBC classes for admissions to other educational courses including under-graduate courses from the
educational year 2019-20.
