ParliamentPosted at: Dec 6 2019 5:52PM Machines to replace manual scavenging: PuriNew Delhi, Dec 6 (UNI) To stop deaths during manual scavenging, the government is taking effective steps and will create awareness and provide machines to the workers to clean sewearage, MoS (I/C) of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri said in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.Speaking after a debate in the Uper House on the Private Members motion moved by BJP MP Prabhat Jha on November 22 for ending manual scavenging in the country, Mr Puri, stating that the Swachhta campaign has become a people's project, said that rural India is now Open Defecation Free (ODF) and urban area will become early by next year.Mr Puri listed the statistics in terms of what was done under the previous scheme and under the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen.
