Hamirpur (HP), Aug 31(UNI) The Himachal Pradesh government has imposed a ban on the sale and purchase of animals during the cattle fairs in the state.
This step has been taken in view of Lumpy skin disease that has been spreading throughout the state. It has so far claimed more than 1,000 lives of animals, according to a spokesman of the Animal Husbandry department.
According to the report of the State Animal Husbandry Department, so far 33,966 animals have been found infected by the virus.
A total of 91,450 animals have been vaccinated in the state. The department spokesman said that there were 23,072 active cases across the state.
Animal Husbandry Department Director, Dr. Pradeep Sharma, said so far no cases of lumpy skin virus have been reported from any of the four farms of the department.
Cases are coming up in private dairy farms and officials have been asked to keep a close watch and make animal owners aware. Vaccination campaign is in full swing.
