Lucknow, Jan 29 (UNI) Polling for biennial elections for three seats of graduates constituency and two seats of teachers constituency of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council will be held on Monday, an election department officer said here on Sunday.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer (ACEO) Ratnesh Singh said polling for three seats of graduates constituency, including Gorakhpur-Faizabad, Kanpur and Bareilly-Moradabad and three seats of teachers constituency, including Allahabad-Jhansi and Kanpur will be held on Monday. "Polling which will start at 8 am will continue till 4 pm," he said.
He said biennial elections are being held as the term of Devendra Pratap Singh, the elected member from Gorakhpur-Faizabad graduates seat, Arun Pathak, from Kanpur graduates seat, Dr Jai Pal Singh, elected from Bareilly-Moradabad block graduates seat, Suresh Kumar Tripathi, elected from Allahabad-Jhansi teachers seat and Raj Bahadur Singh Chandel, from Kanpur teachers seat, will expire on February 12.
The ACEO said the polling will be held in 39 districts, including Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Fatehpur, Banda, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Unnao, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Badaun, Rampur, Moradabad, Amroha, Bijnor, Sambhal, Bahraich, Shravasti, Gonda, Balrampur, Basti, Siddharth Nagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Deoria, Kushinagar, Azamgarh, Mau, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Amethi and Ambedkar Nagar.
He said the divisional commissioners of Bareilly, Jhansi, Gorakhpur and Kanpur have been notified as the Returning Officers by the Election Commission of India. He said 39 officers including Additional Commissioners of these divisions along with the District Magistrates have been appointed as Assistant Returning Officers.
Singh said a total of 6.32 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in three graduate constituencies, of which 3.93 lakh are male and 2.39 lakh are female voters. "A total of 826 polling stations have been made in three graduate constituencies," he said.
He said similarly a total of 53.92 thousand voters will exercise their franchise in two teachers constituencies, of which 35.05 thousand are male and 18.87 thousand are female voters. "A total of 238 polling stations have been made in these two teacher constituencies. A total of 44 candidates are in fray in three graduate constituencies and 19 candidates in 2 block teacher constituencies, that is, a total of 63 candidates are in the fray in 5 constituencies," he said.
