LS polls: 203 candidates lost security deposits in Haryana

Chandigarh, May 24 (UNI) Haryana Joint Chief Electoral Officer Dr Inder Jeet on Friday said that except for the winning and runner-up candidates, the remaining 203 nominees lost their security deposits in the 17th Lok Sabha elections in the state.
In Haryana, a total of 223 candidates were in fray to contest for 10 Lok Sabha seats in General Elections 2019, he said and added that under Section 158 sub-section (4) of The Representation of the People Act, 1951, it is mandatory for the candidates to get one-sixth of the total valid votes, to remain safe from losing their security deposit.
He said that 16 candidates in Ambala Parliamentary constituency, 19 in Bhiwani-Mahendragarh, 22 in Gurugram, 14 in Karnal, 18 in Sirsa, 27 in Sonipat, 22 in Kurukshetra, 25 in Faridabad, 24 in Hisar and 16 in Rohtak, have lost their security deposits.
He said that BJP has received the highest voting percentage of 58.02 in Haryana. Apart from this, Aam Aadmi Party garnered 0.36 per cent, BSP got 3.64 per cent, CPI 0.06 per cent, CPI (M) 0.07 per cent, Indian National Congress 28.42 per cent, INLD 1.8 per cent and others received 7.15 per cent mandate.
