LS demands postponement of new pattern medical entrance test
New Delhi, Apr 29 (UNI) Members in the Lok Sabha today demanded that in view of larger interest of aspiring students, the new patterned common entrance test for admission in MBBS and BDS courses in the country be deferred till 2018 to enable students to prepare themselves for the test as per the new pattern and the CBSE and other authorities concerned to make necessary arrangement for holding the examination. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, several Members, including Jagdambika Pal(BJP), Rajiv Satav(Congress) and Arvind Sawant(SS) expressed concern over the implications of the judgement of the Supreme Court for holding the above test at the national level for admission in all government and private medical and dental colleges on the country on May 1. Mr Pal said the apex court yesterday delivered the order for conducting the test on Sunday for those who have already submitted application forms and on July 24 for remaining aspirants who so far have not filled forms. He said the court verdict had come all of sudden to students who got only two days to prepare themselves for the May 1 examination and that had put them under enormous mental stress. Therefore, the Government should seek necessary relief for the students. Mr Satav said, "The Government should move an appeal before the court for either seeking time till 2018 for switching over to new pattern of examination or at least deferring the May 1 test for conducting it with the second phase on July 24. Mr Sawant said the apex court has ordered holding of national common entrance test on May 1, the state(Maharashtra) was scheduled to hold state level exam on May 5 and hence students are facing dilemma. He said that presently state level entrance tests besides in English and Hindi medium, are being conducted in regional languages, but the CBSE before the apex court has expressed its inability to conduct the national common test in regional languages for want of time. Therefore, the government should file an appeal and seek time deferring the new pattern exam till 2018. Several other members also associated themselves with the issue. UNI SS AE/RSA 1543
