Locals and police clash over Rato Machhindranath chariot procession

Kathmandu, Sep 3 (UNI) Security personnel on Thursday had to use force to disperse a crowd as people refused to adhere to calls prohibiting pulling of the Rato Machhindranath chariot on the middle of the road.
Police and public clashed at the Pulchowk of Lalitpur city after locals attempted to take out the chariot procession of Rato Machhindranath.
Kathmandu Post quoted the chief of Lalitpur Metropolitan Police Range Senior Superintendent Tek Prasad Rai saying that about 800 people had gathered in Pulchowk to pull the chariot. A clash ensued when police attempted to restrain them from pulling the chariot in view of the coronavirus restrictions.
