Live streaming: Apex court orders early listing of Govindacharya plea

New Delhi, Dec 5 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Thursday directed early listing of a petition filed by former Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh ideologue, KN Govindacharya, seeking live streaming of the matters pertaining to Article 370 of the Constitution.
His interim application filed on November 22 was not listed for past 15 days so it was mentioned by senior advocate and former Additional Solicitor General Vikas Singh today before the bench of Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde and Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant.
Mr Govindacharya had filed a petition seeking enforcement of the apex court's own judgment in Centre for Accountability and Systemic Change against the Secretary General delivered by it by erstwhile Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra on September 26 last year.
The Supreme Court had directed live streaming of matters of national importance.
A bench, led by former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, on September 16, had ordered the Registry to submit a report to the court in this regard. But the Registry did not submit any report, and the judgment in the Ayodhya title case came to be delivered on November 9 last.
Mr Govindacharya has asserted that live streaming is an important step for ensure transparency and accountability.
It would ensure that the true picture of the proceedings before the courts are brought out before the public.
He has stated that matters pertaining to Article 370 are momentous in nature and that 'in the 21st century Digital India, it is unimaginable that the highest court of the land is not recording its proceedings.'
