List of 100 candidates ready for UP polls, will be out soon: Priyanka

Lucknow, Dec 8 (UNI) The Congress has shortlisted its candidates on 100 seats for the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and the list will be released soon. This was announced by the party general secretary and UP in-charge Priyanka Gandhi while releasing the all women manifesto here on Wednesday.
"We have received a number of applications and screening work in on. We have shortlisted candidates for 100 seats and the list will be announced soon," Priyanka said. She said that of the shortlisted candidates 60 are women. It may be recalled that the party has announced to give 40 per cent tickets to women. Priyanka said that she has received an overwhelming response from the women across the state on party’s announcement to give 40 per cent tickets to female candidates.
On being asked about the winnability factor the Congress leader said that the step was not aimed by just focusing on the UP polls. “We genuinely want to empower women. We want to provide them a platform from where they can get their representation in politics. For us it’s not the matter of just elections, they can win and they can lose as well, but the point is that at least they will get a chance to represent. I hope that other political parties take similar steps,” she said.
