Ranchi, Jun 8 (UNI) In separate incidents of lightning which took place in different
districts of the state on Friday, a total of nine people were killed while eight others
sustained injuries.
A maximum of three people were killed in Palamu while two each lost their lives
in Chatra and Bokaro while a person each was killed in Hazaribagh and Gumla
districts of the state. In Palamu seven people were injured in lightning incident
while another person was injured in Hazaribagh.
The weather department had issued an alert for Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Giridih,
Chatra and Bokaro districts in which it had predicted heavy rainfall coupled with
lightning and thunderstorm. The department has predicted that the weather will
likely remain the same in the next 3-4 days in Jharkhand.
In the state capital Ranchi the afternoon sky suddenly went dark which was
followed by heavy downpour which brought normal life to a stand still. Due to
the rainfall many areas reported water logging leading to traffic jams across all
the prominent roads. Moreover the long hours of pour cuts also added to the
sufferings of the people.
Due to the heavy rainfall many areas of the city including Upper Bazar,
Madhukam, Inderpuri, Lower Shivpuri, Policeline, Devi Mandap Road Sarovar
Nagar water went inside the homes of the people.
