Liang shocked, other Chinese through to men's, women's singles quarters

Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Sep 20 (Xinhua) World No. 8 Liang Jingkun was the sole Chinese player who failed to make the men's singles quarterfinals at the 2019 Asian Table Tennis Championships (ATTC) here on Friday.

The fifth seed was denied a 2-0 lead on sets, losing 9-11, 4-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 to South Korean Jeoung Young-sik in the round of 16.

Jeoung will take on Tomokazu Harimoto in the quarterfinals later on Friday, after the Japanese teenage sensation eased past Chen Chien-An of Chinese Taipei 3-0.

All other Chinese players have advanced to the quarterfinals, namely top-seeded Xu Xin, Lin Gaoyuan, Wang Chuqin and Fan Zhendong in the men's singles, as well as Ding Ning, Chen Meng, Liu Shiwen, Wang Manyu and Sun Yingsha on women's part.

The ATTC singles events will decide the last-eight berths after three rounds of play each on Friday.
