LG to promote sports

Puducherry, Jul 21 (UNI) Lt Governor, Kiran Bedi dedicated her 176th morning round for promotion of bonding through sport by bringing together veterans, girls and boys to play football.



According to a Raj Nivas release, Ms Bedi accompanied by District Collector of Puducherry, Co-ordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra and representatives of Round Table visited the Government Higher Secondary School, Alankuppam to witness the football match played at the school ground by the Girls and Boys of that village.

She suggested that beginning with tournament of "Collector Cup" rolling Trophy football will be promoted in Puducherry. The tournament could be conceptualized for conduct of the finals on January 12, the birthday of Swami Vivekananda celebrated as the National Youth Day.



Addressing the students at the ground, Ms Bedi said that playing games is the healthiest hobby for the body and mind. The students should devote their energy and time for studies and sports. Sports combined with studies will make them responsible future citizens.



The Lt. Governor asked the District Collector, Puducherry to take forward the initiative by bringing together the Coaches, the physical education teachers, the Nehru Yuva Kendra, the veterans and the round table.

It was also suggested that Traders Association be requested to sponsor trophies in the names of famous players, Coaches and Veteran contributors of Puducherry to the sport of Football.



Thereafter Ms Bedi visited Electricity Department. After a brief visit in the Department's premises, she addressed the gathering of the entire staff of Electricity Department.

She thanked the Officers and Staff of Electricity Department for the positive change that they were ushering in improving the cleanliness of Office premises and in generation of revenue.

The Lt Governor said that it is only through internal incremental change, attitudinal and cultural change in respecting the place of work it would be possible to deliver better services.

The officers and staff of the department were encouraged to perform better so much so that they should earn the confidence of the public to be declared as the number one and best department in delivering public service.
