Puducherry, Nov 4 (UNI) Puducherry Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi on Sunday convened a meeting with the Team of MTS (Multi Task Staffs) of Public Works Department who were assigned with the arduous work of cleaning the urban drains.
The meeting is also to appreciate the work rendered by them and make them realize the gravity and importance of the job they are discharging in preventing pockets of city getting inundated and keeping it neat and clean.
According to a Raj Nivas release, the meeting was addressed by Secretary to Government (Public Works), Mr. Devesh Singh, IAS, Chief Engineer, Mr. Shanmugasundaram and other Officers to impress upon the workers the importance of the work that they were discharging and to discharge the work earnestly.
Ms Bedi said that they have been called to express gratitude on behalf of all in recognition of the work they have been rendering. She said that by their conscientious work there has been no inundation in the recent rain fall.
The workers were urged to continue with the good work. Seeing them on field deep in the drains, undertaking the painstaking and arduous work of cleaning the silt and garbage, the people will come to realize their responsibility. It will inculcate in the common public the sense of duty to not sully the drains with garbage and plastics, the Lt Governor said.
Nearly 200 MTS of PWD have attended the meeting, who took a pledge:- "Puducherry is mine. I shall keep it cean".
Following the morning meet of MTS of PWD, in the evening a meeting was organized for similar interaction with the MTS of Puducherry Municipality and Oulgaret Municipality to make them also realize the importance of job being discharged by them and take ownership for the same with pride, the release said.
