Left, PHSS give call for AP bandh on April 16

Vijayawada Apr 16 (UNI) The Left parties and the Patyeka Hoda Sadhana Samithi (PHSS) have given a call for Andhra Pradesh state bandh on April 16, in protest against the Centre's attitude and demanding to grant the Special Category Status (SCS).
Informing this to the media here on Thursday, PHSS Convenor Chalasani Srinivas said they had given a call for the AP state bandh on April 16, as part of their series of agitations to exert pressure on the Centre. However, emergency services would be exempted from the Bandh, he said.
Mr Srinivas said they never wished to observe a state bandh, but were compelled to do this, to protect the interests of people in the state.
''We have given AP bandh call in protest against the indifferent attitude of the BJP-led Centre in Parliament. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is observing fast in such a manner, as he is mocking the democracy,'' Mr Srinivas charged. The PHSS Convenor called upon the people of the state to make the bandh a success and participate in it.
Meanwhile, APCC President N Raghuveera Reddy announced support to the bandh. In a statement here on Thursday, he said the APCC would extend its full support and solidarity to the protest. He appealed to all parties and organisations, not to foil the agitation. Prime Minister Narenda Modi ridiculed the democracy by observing a fast, Mr Reddy said.
Earlier, addressing a programme, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu felt that observing a bandh would not yield any result. The bandh would lead to crippling of the development and economic growth of the state.
