Left parties say observe Dec 6 as `Defend Constitution and Secularism Day'

New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) Six Left parties led by Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday appealed to the people to observe December 6, which coincided with the 26th anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid, as `Defend the Constitution and Secularism Day' in defence of secularism and democracy in the country.
The Left parties observed that the RSS-led outfits had begun a campaign to demand that the central government pass a legislation/ordinance to facilitate the building of the Ram temple at the disputed site at Ayodhya, bypassing the Supreme Court.
Strongly opposing what it called this effort to ''subvert the judicial verdict on the Ayodhya dispute'', they said the Sangh Brigade cannot be allowed to subvert the Constitutional provisions in the name of `faith', a release from CPI(M) Central Committee office here said.
