Laxman urges Prabhu to establish Aviation Varsity in Hyderabad

Laxman urges Prabhu to establish Aviation Varsity in Hyderabad

Hyderabad/New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) BJP Telangana unit President Dr K Laxman urged Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu to establish Aviation Varsity in Hyderabad.

In a memorandum, submitted to the Civil Aviation Minister on Friday, a copy of which was released to media here, Dr Laxman said that Hyderabad is the sixth largest metropolis in India, known for its rich history, culture, varied heritage in arts, crafts and dance. It is also known as “City of Pearls”.

He said in the memorandum that Hyderabad has several defence, educational, legal, agricultural, training, Research and Development Institutes. The city has 13 Universities, including 3 Central, 6 State, 2 Deemed and 2 private universities, and also has world-class institutes like IIT, IIIT, ISB, BITS, Nalsar, IPE . Today, it is home to many multi-national companies and global majors including Microsoft, Google, Facebook, CA, Oracle, IBM, Dell, TCS, Infosys, Wipro and others.
Apart from IT, Hyderabad is also emerging as a leader in the pharmaceutics, biotechnology, insurance and tourism sectors, Mr Laxman said, adding Hyderabad offers good weather all the year around.

In view of Air Force Academy, Dundigal, Air Force Station, Hakimpet, Central Training Establishment at Balanagar, College of Air Warfare at Secunderabad, International Airport at Shamshabad, there is a lot of scope for establishment of Aviation Varsity also in Hyderabad.

Air India has already installed a brand new second A320 simulator costing about Rs 65 crore at the Central Training Establishment (CTE) at Balanagar (Begumpet, Old Airport) last year for training pilots and is also in the process of having an exclusive ATR simulator in the same premises. Without this, trainee pilots were forced to go to Bangkok or Singapore for advanced training. While there is an ATR simulator at Gurugram in the private sector, this will be the first public sector. Last year, the CTE had trained a total of 200 pilots, the memorandum said.

Short and long-term diploma courses in training and management can be offered if an Aviation University is set up, that would be the first of its kind in the country. Air India also can open up its simulators and other training facilities for private airlines.

“ Therefore, the BJP Telangana unit requests you to kindly consider the matter and take steps to set up Aviation University in Hyderabad ”, Dr Laxman said in his memorandum.
