Patna, April 1 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday denied that the poor law and order situation was the reason behind the cancellation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's trip to Sasaram. Kumar told media persons here that there were reports of some kind of disturbances in Bihar-Sharif and Sasaram on Friday and he had directed officials concerned to look into the matter and take effective steps to maintain peace and order at any cost. Strict action would be taken against those found responsible for igniting violence there, he warned.
"Law and order situation is not the reason behind the cancellation of the visit of Union Home Minister Shah to Sasaram", the Chief Minister said adding that the state government had always been providing full security cover to any Union Minister visiting Bihar. There could be some other reason behind the cancellation of the visit of Shah to Sasaram, he remarked.
Meanwhile, Shah arrived in Patna to address a public meeting in Nawada on Sunday. He, however, cancelled his visit to Sasaram apparently due to the disturbance that erupted there post the Ramnavmi festival.
Bihar BJP president Samrat Chaudhary said that Chief Minister Kumar had failed in maintaining the law and order situation in Bihar. Due to the bad law and order situation, prohibitory orders had been issued in Sasaram and how could a public meeting be organised there which was to be addressed by Shah, he pointed out.
On the other hand, JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar said that Shah had cancelled his visit to Sasaram as a crowd far less than estimated was expected to gather there for the meeting.
