Law and order challenges apparently linked to Bengal, Assam polls, suspects Meghalaya HM

Shillong, Oct 22 (UNI) Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday maintained that there were suspicions that the sudden developments posing a challenge to the law and order situation in the State could be orchestrated by some elements in the run-up to the assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam next year.
Rymbui also termed the allegation of atrocities perpetrated by the State police and other state machinery of indulging in religious persecution against the Bengali population residing in Ichamati village and other parts of Meghalaya as “unfounded” and “baseless”.
“The indigenous and non-indigenous populations are living in harmony. But there are some elements who are trying to vitiate the peace and harmony in the State and the government will not tolerate anyone who is trying to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere,” Rymbui said.
