Landlocked Sikkim & Bengal's Kalimpong district cut off from rest of country rains washed away metal road, tourists stranded

Siliguri, Sep 13 (UNI) Landlocked Sikkim state and West Bengal's Kalimpong district have been cut off from the rest of the country after a sizeable potion of metal road near the 29th Mile (Gailkhola) on NH 10, the lifeline of the Himalayan state, was washed away following downpour for past few days.

Sikkim and Kalimpong have no other alternative link like air and rail. They have only metal road, the NH 10, and their nearest rail link is at New Jalpaiguri, about 90 kms from Gangtok. The cut off was
