Lady ASI caught taking bribe inside police station

Bhubaneswar, June 13 (UNI) Odisha Vigilance on Saturday apprehended an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Jarapada Police Station in Odisha's Angul district while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant to help him in a case under investigation.
The accused, identified as Sita Nayak, was serving as the investigating officer in a case recently registered at Jarapada Police Station. According to Vigilance officials, Nayak had allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant to facilitate settlement of the case following a compromise between the complainant and the opposing party.
When the complainant expressed his inability to pay the amount, the ASI allegedly reduced the demand to Rs 8,000. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached Odisha Vigilance, which subsequently laid a trap.

Odisha panel clears premature release of Dara Singh, convicted in Staines murder case

Bhubaneswar, Jul 14 (UNI) The Odisha State Sentence Review Board (OSSRB) has recommended the premature release of Dara Singh, the life convict in the 1999 murder of Australian missionary Graham Stuart Staines and his two minor sons in Odisha's Keonjhar district, citing his "good behaviour" in prison.
The recommendation was made during the Board's meeting earlier this month, where it reviewed the cases of eligible life convicts for possible premature release.
