LADC floor test aborted as CEM Zirsanga resigns minutes before session

Aizawl, Aug 14 (UNI) The much-anticipated confidence motion for the executive committee of the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) under Chief Executive Member (CEM) V. Zirsanga of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) was called off today after Zirsanga tendered his resignation to Mizoram Governor Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh just 30 minutes before the session commenced.
LADC chairman T. Zakunga had convened the session at 10:30 a.m., in compliance with instructions from the state district council & minority affairs (DC&MA) department, to determine whether Zirsanga’s 25-member executive committee still enjoyed the council’s confidence. The move was in line with the Governor’s directive issued after the Gauhati High Court’s August 8 order, which required Zirsanga to prove his majority within a fortnight.
However, the chairman informed the House that the resignation—submitted to the Governor via his office at 10 a.m.—rendered the floor test unnecessary as the executive committee stood dissolved.
