Imphal, Nov 12 (UNI) Two men both Meitei ages 76 and 54 were found burnt to death by Kuki militants at Jiribam on Tuesday.
Kuki militants also abducted three women aged 60, 31, and 25 and three children aged eight, two and a half years, and an eight-month-old. All the abducted persons are Meitei.
The photo of the three women and three children in the custody of Kuki militants also went viral in the state. Earlier two youths who lost their way were kidnapped by Kuki militants and a Kuki organisation COTU released them after an exchange of Kuki prisoners.
For the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday, Kuki militants fired bombs, burnt houses, and attacked farmers at Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishenpur, and other districts.
The valley area is surrounded by reserved and protected hills which have been controlled by Kuki militants and people living in the valley have not been able to move out since May 3, 2023 when the attack by Kuki militants started.
During the last week two women, and two men have died.
On Monday Kuki militants went on a rampage at Jiribam burning houses, and shops and attacking a police station at Borobekra where CRPF personnel were stationed.
In the retaliation by CRPF, eleven Kuki militants died.
Large numbers of weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, police said.
People of Manipur are not able to use the National Highways as Kuki militants have opened posts on the Highway and only Imphal to Jiribam highway is operational as there are no Kuki militant posts. Of late Kuki militants from Myanmar and some places of Manipur have started attacking Jiribam to control the highway.
