KSU opposes setting up of new cement plants in Meghalaya

Shillong, Sep 20 (UNI) The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), an influential student body in Meghalaya opposed Star Cement Limited’s proposed expansion of their mining lease and establishment of a cement plant and captive power plant by Meghatop Cement Company Private Limited in East Jaintia Hills district.
KSU has written to the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MPSCB), expressing its opposition to Star Cement Limited’s proposal.
The proposed expansion of the mining lease to Star Cement Limited falls under the Eco-Sensitive Zone of the Narpuh Wildlife Sanctuary and also near the Lukha River.
