Seoul, Sep 25 (UNI) India's challenge in the women's singles of Korea Open Super 500 tournament came to an end, after both P V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal crashed out in the first round, here on Wednesday.

Saina had to end her campaign after she retired hurt, during the third game against South Korea's Kim Ga Eun in the first round match.

Nehwal started well and won the opening game 21-19, but lost the second one by 18-21 against the South Korean. In the third and final round, Kim Ga Eun was ahead 8-1, when the Indian eighth seed retired from the match.

Nehwal was the second Indian, who had to retire hurt from the first round. Earlier, Sai Praneeth, who had lost the first game 9-21 and was trailing 7-11 in the second, decided to retire because of injury against the Anders Antonsen of Denmark.

Earlier in the day, World Champion PV Sindhu was knocked out by American Beiwen Zhang in the opening round. Sindhu won the first game comfortably, but the American shuttler came back strongly, to win the next two games.

Sindu tried hard, but couldn't find a way to go past the American Zhang and lost the match 21-7, 22-24, 15-21.

Meanwhile, Parupalli Kashyap eased into the second round after beating Lu Chia Hung of Taiwan 21-16, 21-16, while Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy lost their men's doubles opening match against Huang Kai Xiang and Liu Cheng 16-21, 21-19, 18-21.

Kashyap will now face Malaysia's Liew Daren in the second round.
