KKR drub RCB to take place in IPL second phase

KKR drub RCB to take place in IPL second phase

Bengaluru, May 7(UNI) Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) stormed in to the second phase of the IPL 10th edition with a resounding six wicket win against Royal Challengers Bangaluru (RCB) here today. Thrice finalists RCB met with another debacle as hard hitting Australian opener Chris Lynn, injured earlier, came back to the centre stage hitting a 22 ball 54 while newly founded hard hitting opener in IPL, the West Indian leg spinner Sunil Narine hit a 17-ball 54 to supped up things for KKR within 15.1 overs. Earlier RCB made a competitive 158 put into bat with late order Travis Head making an unbeaten 75 in 47 balls and opener Mandeep staying back to make 52. For RCB, top order batsmen Chris Gayle (00), Virat Kohi (05) and AB de Villers (10) flattered again, as they were dismissed in the first six oves. Lynn, returning after a long lay off for KKR revealed smashing a 22 ball 52 opening the innings and Sunil Narine again came up with a cameo with a 17-ball 54. the opening partnership produced 105 in 6 overs that put paid to any aspirations of the RCB. Put into bat RCB batsmen continued to disappoint as Gayle was out in the opening ball holding out a miscued host to Gambhir in the covers and Kohli trapped by Umesh Yadav. Sunil Narine who claimed 2 for 29 scalped De Villers who left his leg stump exposed. But there after the batsmen Head and opener Mandeep tried to resurrect the innings while Kedar Jadhav (8) disappointed again. But Head, who came in the place of fellow off-colour Aussie Shane Watson made his presence felt, after a slow start. He hit out in the end lasing out against Umesh for two sixes and a four in the last over but this was not enough as RCB ended at 158 for 6. It was expected that the slow M Chinnaswamy wicket could prove tricky for KKR to score 159 target, but Lynn and Narine negated the thought. They sent out Pawan Negi the most successful bowler with 2/21 and others on a leather hunt with favoured West Indian leg spinner Samuel Badree going for 40/0 in three overs. More favoured Indian leg-spinner Yazuvendra Chhahal also went for 39/1 in his four overs thus spelt the bad fate of RCB in this edition. The Most affected bowler among RCB was left arm medium pacer S Aravind who went for 26 runs in one over. Incidentally, only for the second time two RCB batsmen have scored a 50 in the same game this year. Brief scores: RCB 158 for 6 (Mandeep Singh 52, Travis Head 75 n.o., Umesh Yadav 3/36, Sunil Narine 2/29) lost to KKR 159 for 4 (Chris Lynn 50, Sunil Narain 54, Colin de Grndhomme 31).
