Khonsa West bye-election: DGP takes stock of security arrangement

Itanagar, Oct 10 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh DGP RP Upadhyaya on Thursday visited
Khonsa to take stock of security and law and order arrangement in view of the
forthcoming bye-election in Khonsa west Assembly seat in Tirap district which is
scheduled to be held on October 21.
During the visit, the DGP briefed all officer's deployed for duty and boosted their
morale, a release said here.
Briefing was followed by close door meeting with IB officials, it said.
The DGP will be interacting with senior Army and Paramilitary officers to review the
security scenario in TLC region with special focus on Khonsa bye-election tomorrow,
the release added.
He will be interacting with both the candidates of Khonsa bye-election, Gaon Burrahs ,
followed by visit to polling station, it said.
Two Independent candidates-- Chakat Aboh and Azet Homtok, are in the fray for the
Khonsa West bye-election.
Chakat Aboh, wife of slain National People’s Party leader Tirong Aboh, is being backed
by five major political parties, including ruling BJP and opposition Congress, for the
The bye-election to the Khonsa West seat was necessitated after Tirong Aboh, who
contested the April 11 Assembly election as NPP nominee and got re-elected from the
said seat, was gunned down by suspected NSCN militants in Tirap district on May 21,
