Guwahati, Jan 22 (UNI) The third edition of the Khelo India Youth Games 2020 concluded at Guwahati today, with Maharashtra retaining it's top position in the medals tally.
The 13-day sporting extravaganza, which witnessed the participation of 12,000 athletes, officials and support staff and 37 states and union territories, ended with a glittering closing ceremony at Sarusajai Stadium, which was among the venues of the Games.
A display of Chinese martial art form, Wushu, was the high point of the closing ceremony, performed by artists from China.
The performance was part of events lined up to mark 70 years of India-China diplomatic ties.
Local songs and dances were also performed, while renowned Bollywood singer Shaan was the star performer of the evening.
Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal gave away the Champions trophy to Maharashtra, who collected total of 256 medals, included 78 gold.
Haryana finished second with 200 medals, including 68 gold, and Delhi third with 122 medals, of which 38 were gold.
Host Assam finished seventh on the tally, with total 76 medals, including 20 gold.
Chief minister Sonowal, in his speech, hoped that the Khelo India Games would be the ground for scouting talents for the country.
He said, "Our target should be to have maximum podium finishes in the Olympics. We have to bring more medals for the country."
Union Minister Rameshwar Teli, Assam Finance minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma and Khelo India CEO Avinash Joshi also spoke on the occasion.
