Kannur, April 1 (UNI) Hundreds of people from Kannur and Kozhikode districts were seen converging at Mahe (a small district of neighboring Union Territory of Puducherry and enclave of Kannur district) to save on fuel costs as the Kerala Government has imposed additional social security cess on petrol, diesel and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), effective Saturday.
The price of petrol in Mahe is Rs 93.80, while in nearby Kerala at Thalassery it is Rs 108 per litre. Similarly, diesel price in Mahe is Rs 83.72, while in Thalassery it sells at Rs 97.12 per litre.
The road distance between Mahe and Thalassery in Kannur is just six kms. So the drivers prefer to fill their vehicle full tank to save hundreds of Rupees while passing through Mahe, said Chandran, a car driver of Kannur told UNI.
