Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 26 (UNI) Kerala Water Resources Minister Mathew T Thomas resigned from his post on Monday and handed over his resignation letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at his official residence, Cliff House.
Talking to newspersons after a brief meeting with the Chief Minister, Mr Thomas said he was obeying the decision of his party JD( Secular).
Denying media reports that the party was facing a possible split, the Minister said 'socialists were always with the Left Front and personally he stands with it even during crisis in his political life'.
'Expressing happiness over many things which he had done for the service of the society, he expressed unhappiness over the things which he is yet to complete.
About the new leadership, he said the National leadership will decide who will be the next JD(S) State President, adding he was not for any position in the party.
Meanwhile, party sources said JD(S) State President and Palakkad-Chittur MLA K Krishnankutty, is likely to be sworn in as Minister in the Pinarayi Cabinet on Tuesday evening.
Earlier, JD(S) National Secretary General Kunwar Danish Ali, said the party's state leaders meet held in Bangalore recently had passed a resolution over the replacement of Mr Thomas.
The replacement pact was on the basis of an earlier decision that Mr Thomas will handover the Ministership to Mr Krishnankutty after the completion of two-and-half years tenure.
The party also had sent a copy of the resolution to Mr Pinarayi Vijayan in this regard, Mr Ali added.
The party took the decision in the presence of JD(S) National President and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda.
Though the party MLAs K Krishnankutty and CK Nanu attended the meet, Mr Thomas skipped the Bangalore meeting.
