Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 14 (UNI) Kerala Government is complicit in the gold smuggling through Thiruvananthapuram Airport, misusing diplomatic immunity of the UAE consulate here as the state government had approved a request of the Consulate for getting diplomatic immunity for consignments addressed to them, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said on Friday.
Addressing a press conference here, the senior Congress leader the Chief Minister and Kerala government cannot wash hands off the gold smuggling case.
'As per the procedure the Consulate has to apply with the Protocol Office of the Public Administration Department to get diplomatic immunity to their baggages at the airport, and the Public Administration Department is directly under the Chief Minister. Only after getting the permission, the immunity becomes applicable, and consignments could be brought in," he said.
