Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 20 (UNI) Kerala Cabinet which met here on Monday has decided not to implement the National Population Register (NPR) in the state.
However, the state, which will cooperate with the Census, will inform its decision to the Central Registrar General and Census Commissioner and the State Census Director, an official release said here.
The Cabinet has taken the decision a day after a call was given by CPI (M) Central Committee to the people to say 'No' to the NPR and 'Yes' to the Census.
The government took a decision in this regard fearing protest from various social groups against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the implementation of NPR, sources said.
