Kerala: 5000 wells to be recharged under MGNREGS

Kottayam, Oct 25 (UNI) As part of the efforts to ensure drinking water during the summer season, 5000 wells will be recharged in Kottayam district under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
The initiative will be carried out under the Subhiksha Keralam programme, official sources said on Sunday.
Recharging of 200 wells has already been completed in the initial phase. The project is being implemented to address the issue of fluctuating water quality and drying up of wells in summer, MGNREGS joint programme coordinator P S Shino said.

Chennai, Nov 24 (UNI) The deep depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of five kmph during the past six hours, intensified into a Cyclonic Storm “NIVAR” and would cross between Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts as a severe cyclonic storm tomorrow.
