Kejriwal appeals Centre to permit Covid-19 vaccine for all

Kejriwal appeals Centre to permit Covid-19 vaccine for all

New Delhi, Mar 18 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal here on Thursday urged the Centre to permit inoculation of coronavirus vaccine for all, instead of limiting it to those aged above 60 and between 45 and 59 with co-morbidities.
Addressing a press conference on the virus surge, Mr Kejriwal said as vaccine production has increased in the country, people above 18 should be vaccinated to defeat the contagion.
'If the Centre allows it and sufficient vaccine doses are provided, we aim to vaccinate entire Delhi in three months,' the Chief Minister claimed.
'Around 30,000 to 40,000 people are getting vaccinated everyday in the national capital. At government centres, the time will be increased by four hours. Earlier, it was 0900 hrs to 1700 hrs, now it will 0900 hrs to 2100 hrs, he said.
Mr Kejriwal appealed to the people to come out of vaccine hesitancy and said he and his parents had received the jab and doing fine. "Eligible people should get vaccinated,' he urged.
The AAP convenor said his government is aiming to vaccinate 1,00,000 people in a day and double the vaccine centres in the coming days.
'We are writing a letter to the Central government to relax certain norms in opening vaccination centres,' he said.
On rising Covid-19 cases, the Chief Minister said there was no need to worry as earlier 5,000 to 6,000 cases were recorded while on Wednesday over 500 cases registered.
"But to contain the infections, we will strictly implement our surveillance, tracking, tracing, isolation model," he assured.
Social distancing and wearing of the mask will be enforced strictly to ward off the virus, Mr Kejriwal added.
