KCR resigns as Telangana CM

Hyderabad, Dec 3 (UNI) K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) resigned as Telangana chief minister, hours after the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party lost the assembly elections on Sunday evening.
A press communiqué received from Raj Bhavan said that the “resignation letter of K Chandrashekar Rao, Chief Minister, received today.
"Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan accepted KCR's resignation letter and requested him to continue in office till formation of the new government, it added.
The pink party was voted out in Telangana, with the Congress registering a resounding victory by winning 62 out of 119 assembly seats, while BRS was restricted to 39 seats.
The Chandrasekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) had been in power since 2014, when Telangana was granted statehood and won the 2018 elections as well.
With the victory in the polls, now all eyes are set on the Congress, which will now pick its new chief minister.
The Congress Legislative Party meeting will be held on Monday to elect CM candidate, according to party sources here.
Earlier on ‘ X’ (formerly as Twitter), ruling BRS working president K T Rama Rao (KTR) congratulated the Congress party on winning the mandate in the elections. “Wishing you good luck”.
He said, “Grateful to the people of Telangana for giving @BRS party two consecutive terms of government.”
“Not saddened over the result today, but surely disappointed as it was not on expected lines for us” but we will take this in our stride as a learning and will bounce back," KTR, son of incumbent CM KCR, added.
