Kashmir witnesses another freezing night

Srinagar, Feb 23 (UNI) Cold weather conditions intensified across Kashmir with the hill resort of Gulmarg remaining the coldest at -10.0°C on Friday, officials said.
Meteorological Centre Srinagar said the weather is likely to remain dry and there is no significant activity till February 26.
There is a possibility of light to moderate scattered or widespread rain or snow during February 27 and 28 while as light rain and snow are predicted at isolated places on February 29, it said.
Between March 1-3 there is a possibility of light to moderate rain/snow at most places with heavy rain, snow at isolated middle and higher reaches during March 2-3 in Jammu and Kashmir, the MeT office said.
While the Srinagar-Jammu Highway remained open on Friday, the strategic Srinagar-Leh road remained closed for vehicular traffic due to accumulation of recent snowfall.
The road connecting Keran and Machil roads in Kupwara district, Anantnag Sinthan and Mughal roads were also closed for vehicular traffic due to snowfall on Tuesday, they said.
The MeT office said the minimum temperature during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday in Srinagar slipped down and was recorded at -2.6°C. It was 3.5°C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
The maximum temperature improved with bright sun appearing during the day and recorded at 0.5°C below normal of 10.3°C on Thursday in Srinagar.
The night temperature improved by a few notches at Gulmarg but it remained the coldest place with a low of -10.0°C against the -10.4°C the previous night. It was 3.3°C below normal for the famous ski resort of north Kashmir.
The mercury at the tourist resort of Pahalgam plunged to -9.5°C against the -8.6°C the previous night and it was 5.5°C below normal for the tourist hot spot of south Kashmir.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national had a low of -3.8°C against the -4.4°C recorded a day ago while Picnic spot Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of-3.5°C against -5.4°C recorded previous night.

Kupwara also witnessed a drop in the minimum temperature and recorded –4.7°C against the -3.1°C and it was 4.4°C below normal for the frontier north Kashmir district on Thursday, the MeT office said.
