Kashmir highway closed due to landslides

Srinagar, Sep 23 (UNI) The 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only all weather road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was closed on Sunday due to landslides and shooting stones triggered by rain, a traffic police official said.
He said despite rain since early this morning, the highway was through for both way traffic. However, there were landslides and shooting stones, triggered by rain, at Kheeri, Magarkoot and Ramsoo on the highway, forcing authorities to suspend traffic.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway have already put into service sophisticated machines and men to put through the traffic after clearing the landslides. However, traffic will be resumed only after receiving green signal from the BRO and traffic police personnel deployed on the highway.
