Srinagar, Sep 24 (UNI) The Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK), left here to cross over to other side of the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday morning, official sources said here.
The bus left with 36 passengers, all returnees of PoK, Bemina here this morning, sources told UNI.
They said the bus has since reached Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC), at Uri, where more passengers will board it before leaving for Kaman post, the last Indian military post on this side of the LoC. The exact number of passengers travelling to PoK will be known in the afternoon, they added.
They further said that number of passengers coming from PoK will be known in the evening.
The bus was introduced on April 7, 2005 to help families, separated due to partition in 1947, to meet each other. However, only state subjects from both the sides are eligible to travel on route permits instead of International passports. The route permit is issued only after the names of travelers are cleared by intelligence from both sides. Thousands of families have so far benefitted from the bus.
