Karnataka: Khadi board to launch e- marketing

Hubballi, 23 Feb (UNI) The Karnataka Khadi and Village Industries Board is currently planning not only to manufacture clothes with latest designs to attract the younger generation, but is also seriously considering launching e-marketing platform of its own similar to the online sales giants like Amazon and Flip Cart to sell their products, Mr Jaya Vibhava Swami, Chief Executive Officer of the Board said here on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference jointly with Mr N R Krishnappa Gowda, President of the Board here on Tuesday, Mr Swami said that due to COVID-19 pandemic the showrooms could not sell the enough of their products. Even the school uniforms saw a fall in the number of sales due to the closure of schools. As a result, currently there is a piled up stock of khadi clothes worth about Rs 300 crores. They hoped that the online sale would help them clear the stocks plus create an awareness about the quality of the khadi clothes besides attracting new clients.
He said that the board as part of its plan called Design Intervention to create ready made khadi dresses with the latest and attractive designs to attract younger generation, has helped three hundred young tailors from the khadi industry in the state to get high level training through the National Institute of Fashion Technology to encourage them to produce clothes with new designs. The board even held fashion shows to guide the newly trained tailors.
