Karnataka Government identifies more than 300 tourist destinations for Tourism  promotion in the State

Mysuru, Aug 4 (UNI) The Karnataka government, in an attempt to give boost Tourism sector, has identified 319 destinations in the State and the blue print is in the final stages of draft.

The 20 destinations which would be taken for comprehensive development in the first phase includes Pilgrimage town Srirangapatana, which is also historic town of Tipu Slutan, the Heritage sites of Belur and Halebid and city of Palaces Mysuru.

Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) Managing Director Kumar Pushkar said "in all 319 destinations were identfied in the State as sites with good potential for Tourism development.

These include Srirangapatana, Mysuru, Kodagu, Belur, Halebid, Badami, Ahihole, and Pattadakallu among others.”

The project will also involve other departments, including Archaeology, Museums and Heritage, local Municipalities and will address issues related to restoration of monuments, better administration around the Tourist sites by way of ensuring cleanliness and hygiene, solid waste management, installation of Signages, among others.

Pushkar said there is no dearth of funds for the projects and both the Union and the State governments are prepared to bring about a transformation in these sites within three years.

“We are taking a holistic approach and visible changes can be expected within three years,” Pushkar added.

He said the heritage site of Vijayanagara dynasty Hampi has been identified by the Union government as one of the destinations to be developed on international standards alongside the Ajanta and Ellora caves, the Taj Mahal, Khajuraho others and the State projects will follow the same template.
