Karnataka, Goa crisis: Sonia, Rahul protest near Gandhi statue in Parliament

New Delhi, Jul 11 (UNI) UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, along with other party leaders, on Thursday protested near Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Parliament over the Karnataka and Goa issues.
The leaders held placards which read 'save democracy', ' loktantra bachao' etc.
Other opposition parties, including MPs of the TMC, RJD and other parties, also held a protest in front of the Gandhi statue against the BJP government.
On Wednesday, some part of the proceedings of the Upper House were also stalled following uproar by the Opposition over the political crisis in Karnataka wherein opposition parties also staged a walk-out, accusing the central government of destabilising the Karnataka's Congress - JD(U) government.
As many as 16 legislators of the JDS-Congress combine have resigned in Karnataka, withdrawing support to the coalition government.
Similarly, in Goa Assembly, ten out of 15 MLAs defected to BJP reducing Congress to mere 5 MLAs. With this, the saffron party’s strength in the Assembly has increased to 27 in the 40-seat house.
