Bengaluru, Aug 14 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has declared 103 Taluks in 23 Districts as flood affected in the State.
Speaking to newsmen here on Wednesday, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said that about 6.97 lakh affected people took shelter in 103 Relief Centers opened in North Karnataka, Kodagu, Karwar, Shivamogga Chikkamagaluru and other Districts and they had slowly started moving to their homes and they were being all assistence to lead a normal live. Rebuilding or newly constructing homes of those who had lost their homes in the floods and rains in Karnataka will be taken up on a warfooting, he said.
Stating that more than 60 companies have shown interest to donate generously towards CM’s Flood Relief Fund, Yediyurappa said that the villages will be named after Donars who contribute Rs 10 Cr.
The authorities have banned vehicular movement for one month in Charmadi Ghat section as land slides have been reported at several places.
The Karnataka government has, according to initial assessment, has put the loss at Rs 50,000 crore due to floods and rain which had thrown normal life out of gear for more than 15 days. The State has appealed to the Union Government to release Rs 10,000 crore interim relief imeediately to take up relief works on urgent basis.
Meanwhile, the IMD has sounded Orange alert in Kodagu and other Southern and coastal districts including Chikkamagaluru, Udupi, Karwar stating that there may be very heavy to heavy rain in the next 24 hours, that has caused a consern. However the state had not received heavy rains for the last three days excepting in the hilly areas.
